We’ve continued our work with our local councillors Olwyn and Fraser on this topic and we can only apologise for the length of time between updates to this website and newsletter. These slow updates have been due, in part, to the many feelings of ‘we’re nearly there’ with our engagement with council officers which has been incredibly challenging, slow and clunky.

However, we’re pleased to confirm that a small number of the Hunwick Parish Steering Group will be meeting with council officers this week during which time we’ll be doing our best to reaffirm many of the points which have been made to-date by residents. This opportunity has only happened due to the tenacity of Olwyn and Fraser who have relentlessly followed up with the council to ensure progress; we’re immensely grateful for their support.

While it has taken us a while to get to this point, it does feel as though we’re approaching something of a decision point. With very recent correspondence confirming that we’re meeting with the actual decision-makers and that this decision will not require ‘full cabinet approval’. That being said, it’s impossible to know how long the slow machinery of the council will need to make any decision a reality and so we’d be wise to temper our expectations.

The support you’ve all shown in the public consultations, via the surveys and out and about is the only reason we’ve got as far as we have; and I’m sure the fact you all came out in force on a very cold, icy and miserable evening in December is the primary reason that the issuance of a lease to the football club has not already been signed off. You should be rightly proud of the influence you’ve all had in ensuring your views are heard.

To ensure that common sense prevails we may need yet more support from you all; but we hope to have a better idea of that after the meeting this week.

Thank you.
